Black Bean Burgers

2 15 ounce cans of black beans rinsed and well drained 

½ large yellow onion 

6 cloves garlic peeled 

1 ½ teaspoons oregano 

1 teaspoon paprika 

½ teaspoon cayenne 

Salt and pepper to taste

¼ cup soy sauce 

1 tablespoon lime juice 

1 egg

1 cup old fashioned oats 

Place onion and garlic in the bowl of a food processor and pulse until minced. Add the remaining ingredients and pulse until combined. Spoon into molds then wrap in plastic wrap and freeze overnight.  Yields 12 burgers.

When ready to cook, heat a grill pan over medium high heat. Spray both sides of the patties with olive or avocado oil. Cook until the patties release from the pan about 10 minutes. Flip and brown the other side about 5 minutes. Top with a slice of American cheese if desired.  Serve on a bun with your favorite toppings.
